My daughter is 2 years old, and just starting to learn how to speak meaningful words and phrases. In my quest for quality educational software for the younger set, I have found surprisingly little for 2-3 year old children (most of it is targeted for children over 3 or 4 years old).
I wrote FlashCards to help my daughter learn her colors, shapes, numbers, and alphabet. I feel it can be a valuable tool for those just starting to master the English language.
It displays the color (shape, etc.) in the main section of the window. At the bottom of the window, it displays the name of the color (shape, etc.). Additionally, it speaks the name so that your child can learn the correct pronunciation.
To change between colors, shapes, numbers, or the alphabet, simply select the desired flashcard type from the "FlashCards" menu.
To change to the next color (shape, etc.), simply click the mouse anywhere in the top section of the window (above the dividing line).
To hear the name of the current color (shape, etc.), simply click the mouse anywhere in the bottom section of the window (below the dividing line, where the name is displayed).
Selecting "Silent" from the "FlashCards" menu keeps the program from speaking the name when the color (shape, etc.) first appears. You can still hear the name by clicking the mouse in the bottom section of the window (as described above).
Selecting "Random" from the "FlashCards" menu makes the colors (shapes, etc.) appear in a pseudo-random order. When this menu item is not checked, the flashcards will appear in sequential order.
Note: While displaying the alphabet flashcards, a sample word that begins with the current letter is displayed across the bottom of the window.
